Stipends
Each NEH Summer Scholar will receive a stipend of $2,200, which will more than cover their travel to and from St. Peter and their living expenses while participating in the seminar. This stipend will be dispensed in two equal checks. Please note that stipends are taxable.
Accommodations
A block of rooms has been reserved for NEH Summer Scholars in the Arbor View West Apartments. Scholars will have access to a single, air conditioned bedroom and bathroom; they will share a living room, dining room, and kitchen with one other program participant. The total cost for these accommodations for 13 nights (for participants arriving July 17 and departing July 30) is $790.40.
Dining
Accommodations in the Arbor View West apartments have kitchens equipped with a refrigerator, stove, and oven. While the kitchens don’t come with much in terms of cooking equipment (we encourage you to pack out the essentials!), they’re perfect for breakfasts, lunches, and modest dinners. There are several grocery stores nearby to get supplies.
The campus cafeteria will also be open during our stay at Gustavus Adolphus College. In the past, scholars have paid a la carte, but there are also meal plans that you could buy for the duration of the seminar.
Previous NEH Summer Scholars have generally preferred cooking and taking advantage of the cafeteria, but there are also a few restaurants and pubs in downtown St. Peter that you might want to try during your stay.
Travel
NEH Summer Scholars should plan to fly into the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) sometime in the afternoon on Sunday, July 17, 2022. We will arrange for a van to pick you up at the airport to bring you to your accommodations in St. Peter.
You should plan to depart from St. Peter on Saturday, July 30, 2022. The inexpensive MSP Airport Express Shuttle can take you from campus directly to the airport, and you should aim to book your ticket in advance once you know your travel schedule.
